Bullying Prevention in Schools
The “Safe Hands, Caring Words” project was developed by CADA to teach elementary students skills to effectively deal with bullying, practice empathy, and help prevent violence. Each grade has an age-appropriate lesson. At the end of each presentation, students are invited to pledge that they will use their hands and words to help, not hurt others. A booster component was developed for schools to have the option of follow-up presentations with lessons centered on empathy. CADA provides presentations in Island County, including Camano and Stanwood reaching almost 6,500 students last year. Teachers report that the project messages resonate with students and it allows teachers to reinforce anti-bullying practices throughout the year.
