Community Resources Foundation
The Mission of the Community Resources Foundation is to administer and cultivate programs that foster a healthy community.
Description of Services
The Community Resources Foundation has been serving the Stanwood Camano community for 24 years. Our programs serve families, individuals and youth of all ages, ethnicities and socio-economic status. All of the Foundation’s programs and activities focus on strengthening and empowering individuals, families and youth and increasing their capacity to succeed. Foundation programs include; the Stanwood Camano Community Resource Center, Davis Place Teen Center, the Stanwood Camano Soap Box Derby, the Growing Forward Community Garden and Morgan’s Tales Used Bookstore. Working in partnership with the City of Stanwood, the Police Department, the Stanwood Camano School District and a variety of local community service agencies we served over 6,000 people in 2016.
Davis Place Teen Center’s work addresses the need for programs that support and encourage youth to develop to their full potential. The America’s Promise Alliance founded by General Colin Powell has identified Five Promises that are the fundamental resources that young people need to succeed. Research completed by the Alliance reports that children who receive at least four of the Five Promises are much more likely to succeed academically, socially and civically. They are more likely to avoid violence, contribute to their communities and be successful in school. Receiving at least four of the Promises also appears to mitigate gaps across racial and economic boundaries. To experience the full power of the Promises, young people must experience these critical supports in their families, at schools and out in their communities. The Five Promises include; Caring adults, Safe places, Healthy development, Effective education and Opportunities to help others through service.
