Foundation for Academic Endeavors

Project

STEM and Literacy Academy for Low-Income Students

Mission

To provide empowering educational experiences for underserved children and families and to build a community that realizes its full potential supported by a network that encourages leadership and lifelong learning.

Description of Services

With the funds gathered on Giving Tuesday, 15 at-risk children from the Stanwood-Camano School District will be able participate in this summer academy at Skagit Valley College. The cost per student for the five weeks is $800. Their parents pay $60. The balance is made up through fundraising. Funding provides bus transportation, two meals a day, and 4 new books for each student. Professional teachers lead each class with the help of college students who are studying to become teachers. Each day is filled with challenging, engaging activities in literacy, science, technology, engineering and math (STEM), PE, and Art. Field trips, special performances and visiting experts enrich the program.
